by Phillip Morris on Aug.09, 2010, under News

I love Chicago summers. Not only do i love how the air smells at night…or the fact that you don’t have to wear a coat/jacket/hoodie…but you wanna know what i reeeeeally love? Fucking. Festivals. And. Outdoor. Shows. Yowza!! Being a full time musician certainly has its perks. Check out what a nerd has been up to this summer.

Humboldt Park Arts Fair – 6.12.2010

HPAF showcased a variety of visual artists, plus jewelry and other crafts. I got the chance to bring my son onstage to rock a Revolutionary Anthem with me. Shit yeah. Phillip: “Can we say bonding?”, You: “Bonding”, Phillip: “Very good.”

Gimme Shelter Fundraiser – 6.13.2010

A benefit for the homeless. I love good causes. The Soundman reprimanded me for rolling around on the ground since it had just rained. Sorry Soundman. Those two people in the upper right corner of the picture look like they’ve never seen this type of behavior before?? Hmmm.

Socialism 2010 Conference – 6.19.2010
This would be the 3rd year in a row that i have rocked at the Socialism conference, and it gets better everytime. I wish i had pictures!!

Chicago Peacefest – 6.20.2010

Old hippies. Young hippies. Non-hippies. Incredible vibe in the air. Shit, I kissed a Chihuahua while i was performing onstage. (True story) Plus over 1000 people in Lincoln Park smoking weed with no police interference whatsoever? Nice.

Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival – 7.23.2010
2nd year performing at MAAF. Abandoned buildings and storefronts that are unoccupied are taken and used as galleries to showcase a variety of art, and performers. I rocked out at Victor Montanez’ KnowART gallery.

Backyard Film & Music Festival – 7.24.2010

I somehow cannot locate a single picture/video of me at this AWESOME show, but this flyer alone is proof i was there!! And by “there” i mean here:

So for the past 2 years, filmmaker Fred Koschmann has been hosting the Backyard Film and Music Festival in his backyard. This year he cranked things into 15th gear and hosted in the backyard/inside the Pullman Historic Site (and lemme tell you the stage/sound system was berry niiiiice). If you like grimey old school awesome buildings used to throw kick ass shows…well…sorry you missed out. Lineup included Dosh, Panda Riot, Light Pollution, Nathan Blake Lynn, Big Splashes. Plus looooots of indie films!

Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival – 7.25.2010
Please read banner behind me. Enough said! Okay, maybe not enough. I performed at Rene Montanez’ 2010: An Art Odyssey Gallery. We managed to get access to the venue beforehand and Scarlet Monk and myself filmed a music video!! I shot people with darts. During “Nightmare Before Christmas” i took off my sweaty socks and threw them into the crowd. Good times. Here’s a video (shot by Oscar Rosas) of me performing “Collateral Damage For The Corporation” off of my upcoming album The Truth Campaign.

Albany Park Arts Festival – 8.1.2010
What can i say, i was thirsty! This show was great. I got to hang out the 2nd floor window and scream Revolution to everyone who walked by. Here’s a video clip of me doing a song!!

4th Annual Sk8 Jam – 8.7.2010

Not only an amazing opportunity to rock for the skateboarding youth of Chicago, and show support for new skate parks being built, but how many chances do you get to perform with Cook County Correctional Facility as the backdrop? (The largest single site county jail in the United States of America by the way.)

Hmmm…so I may have some swagger after all!

by Phillip Morris on Apr.20, 2010, under Current Projects, News

Observe good ol’ Phillip Morris getting his acting debut on in Alicia “Ya Yah” Townsend’s new video entitled Swagger. Ya Yah is a great friend and a talented songstress from Chicago, and her debut EP “Just Me” is set to be released this Summer. I had the pleasure of playing the love interest in this video, directed by Oscar Rosas. Check it out!

Trials, Tribunals, and Truth Campaigns.

by Phillip Morris on Apr.06, 2010, under News

The past month or so has been an unyielding maelstrom of intense heartaches and extreme poverty.  Turbulent romance and unexpected road trips. A maddening streak of exploring every nook and cranny in my humble abode, in hopes of even the faintest wifi signal, as it is my only means of communication with the French Producer i am finishing up an album with.  A winding path that led to excellent shows, decent shows, and intimate shows. Daily hustle and Daley’s perpetual bullshit.  Rushing to pick up my son from school multiple times a week due to bouts with asthma.  Single father trying his best to raise an oversensitive daughter.

Frankly…i am fucking exhausted.

But i must say…it all makes for good music.

Thank you all for being patient with me.

“The Truth Campaign”

Coming soon.

Opening Days…

by Phillip Morris on Mar.25, 2010, under News

So I’ve been enlisted to open for some pretty damn Kosher artists if i dare say so myself. First of all I opened for Louis Logic & Type on the last leg of their Sillier Than Thou tour. The show was at Elastic Arts, and there were just enough people to make it a nice intimate show. Fans that attended had a crapload of fun.

And also on Saturday I will be opening for Chilean hip hop artist Anita Tijoux at Martyrs’. It’s gonna be a nice medley of English and Spanish music and also of straight up raw hip hop and politically charged hip hop music! Can’t wait. We’ll have Olmeca, Son Del Viento, and Rebel Diaz on the lineup as well!! Plus, anyone who was born in 1977 gets into the show for free! (Click on the picture below to read the Sun-Times interview with Anita Tijoux)
